Play Your Favorite iPod Tune? Just Blink

ipod-japan-3.jpgNo more using your fingers. You can now simply bat your eyelid to replay your favourite iPod tune. All happens in a blink of an eye.

The Japanese (as usual) has developed a remote control “KomeKami Switch” or “Temple Switch” that senses the users’ wink. And when the movement of the users skin is detected by the infrared sensors which is usually clipped to their headphones or glasses, it will then generate an electrical signal to carry out whatever the command may be.

For example if the users wink strongly with one eye for one second long, the songs rewind. Wink strongly with another eye and the song will skip to another, close both eyes to pause and open them to play.

Now what if users unintentionally blink or wink?

Kazuhiro Taniguchi of Osaka University’s Graduate School of Engineering Science, who developed the Temple Switch, commented that the system is almost flawless; it could tell the difference between intentional winks and the accidental ones. It will not affect the users when he or she walks, runs, talks or conducting any other body movements at all.
