Why Grand Theft Auto IV is NOT Game of the Year

xbox360_gta4.jpg

GTA4 certainly live up to the hype; with 10 out of 10 good reviews and half speculating it to be game of the year if not ‘the’ game. Good concept with proven track of consistent soaring sales. But wait… it’s only April.

Towards the second half of the year, 3 more highly invested games will be released and that with better technology, better graphic and better storyline. Take a look.

Too Human

Watch Trailer
Date of Release: TBA 2008 (expect the 3rd quarter of the year)

Concept
The player plays the role of Baldur, a cybernetic god. In the past, cybernetic god are what Norse Gods is today existed in the form of cybernetically enhanced human. Your main duty as a cybernetic God Baldur is to protect human existence from an advancing machine presence programmed to wipe out the human race. Players are treated to an ongoing barrage of action powered by the seamless integration of spectacular firearms combat with vast numbers of enemies.

Juicy Bit
The game was first developed in 1999 and after a teaser trailer was released in 2000, the game was being hold up. Soon after, Nintendo and Silicon Knights split up. And the game was never surfaced. Microsoft Game Studios took over the publication of this game in 2005 and over uncountable trailers and release dates being postponed; Too Human is now ready to be released by this year.

Why it is better than GTA4
I honestly think that GTA4 is a better deal than this but due to the fact that this game was developed long time ago and hype after hype was made since 2005, it might create another buzz in the game stores when it is released. We’ll sip our coffee and see what happen.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

forced-unleashed.jpg

Watch Trailer
Date of Release: September 16, 2008

Concept
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader’s secret apprentice as he hunts down the remaining of Jedi. Set in the dark times between Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV A New Hope, this entry of the Star Wars saga explores the execution of all Jedi, unveiling new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. In the expansive story, players will assist the Darth Vader in his quest to destroy the universe of Jedi and change the course of their own destiny.

Juicy Bit
The Force Unleashed employs the next-gen technology to bring the Force to life in an explosive new way that will be seen and experienced for the first time anywhere in video gaming. Part of this A.I technology in a simplest explanation is, picture a door being kicked open, in any existing game, programmers swap images of doors when the door was damaged. There were perhaps tens of those images that can be used depending on the impact that the players imply or what they use to damage it.

Now in The Forced Unleashed, programmers use, for the first time the newly developed technology that calculate, translate and portray a damage according to the impact that the player make without swamping the limited images. It is all programmed and scripted to react to the material that the player uses, the force they imply, the length of the throw, the weight of the material that the player imply to the door. So there is a minimum chance that the damages will look the same. No swamping of images, only ‘real’ action and impact translated into pictures.

Why it is better than GTA4
1) It adopts the latest technology. Fresh, cool and so ‘real’.
2) It’s Star Wars! Come on
GTA 4 could keep your fingers busy on the console controller for now but I will have to give my vote to Star Wars.

Prototype

Watch Trailer
Date of Release:
September 15, 2008

Concept
This game has a similar concept that of the GTA series in which the players has the freedom to explore the city and interacts with his surrounding non related to its mission. The player plays the character of amnesiac Alex Mercer in his mission to discover the secret of his past. But Alex is no ordinary person. Part of Alex is superhuman, he can run faster than cars, run up the side of the building and fall off without getting hurt. Alex can consume the bodies of those he has killed, which gives him access to their memories, their experiences, and their shape-shift into their physical forms which could form more than 750 unique combinations of powers.

Juicy Bits

The game trailer and the concept itself gained an average of rating of 9.2 and almost 100% positive feedback in popular game sites like gametrailers.com, gamespot.com and ign.com.

Why it is better than GTA4

Because this is like GTA4 (which is already good) with more impact, more killing, more story, more bizarre happenings, more conspiracy with New York city in your hand. Phew!

Ok, yes I do believe GTA4 will be game of the year, but there’s so many other games too…. they also deserve a shot… So hopefully it’ll be a neck and neck finish for game of the year
