Company to Send Human Ashes to the Moon

The moon is a special place. We all know. But making the moon as a final resting place?
Celestis Inc. is all set to send human ashes to the lunar surface using robotic landers and this service could begin as early as next year.
Celestis Inc., president Charles Chafer said his company in collaboration with Odyssey Moon Ltd. and Astrobotic Technology Inc., will attach capsules containing cremated remains onto robotic landers and cremation capsules will remain on the moon with the lunar landers when the missions were complete.
The cost per one person’s ashes that starts at $10,000 has already attracted at least 6 people to sign up for the servi
ce.
Chafer said he would expect at least 1,000 cremated capsules to be launched on the first lunar mission that would be launched in late 2009 or early 2010, and no less than 5,000 on future missions.
Did you know: Celestis Inc., a unit of Houston-based Space Services Incorporated, for the past 11 years has been sending ashes of hundreds of people into space including U.S. astronaut Gordon Cooper and “Star Trek” James Doohan who played Scotty in the TV series.
