“You’ve Got One Message… From The Pope.”

The Australian’s Catholic nuns better not pray for good weather alone for the Pope’s visit this July. They better pray for good mobile phone reception too.
In conjunction with the World Youth Day in Sydney this July, Pope Benedict will text message thousands of young Catholics on their mobile phones to inspire and to give hope.
Pope Benedict hopes that by going digital, the youth will find him more relatable and easier to connect. The Catholic Church also expects to reach out to an estimation of 225,000 youth attending the World Youth Day (WYD) celebrations that start on July 15.
Bishop Anthony Fisher delivered his statement yesterday stating that the effort to reach out to the tech-savvy youth opens up the opportunity for the youth to enjoy a whole new WYD08 experience.
Australian telecoms firm, Telstra will support the activity by providing voice, data, mobile, broadband and broadcast services for the event. Telstra said it plans to connect 8,000 volunteers, 2,000 clergy, 3,000 media and an anticipated 225,000 pilgrims to more than 700 locations around Sydney.
