Shirt That Generates It’s Own Electricity?

r.jpgWe talked about recharging your phone using your hand before but now, with your shirt?

U.S. Scientists have developed a microfiber fabric that generate its own electricity. In other word, if this fabric is used to sew into a shirt, the wearer could produce electricity with current enough to recharge a mobile phone or even a small MP3 player by simply walking around. In fact, any slight movement will cause the shirt to harness its power.

This nanogenerator was developed with the technology of the semi conductive properties of zinc oxide nanowires which is 1,000 times tinier than a human hair. And when the nanowires are embedded into the fabric, microfiber fabric that makes it’s own electricity is created.

How it really works?
The wires are shaped and twisted into pairs of microscopic like those of a baby bottle brush but in much tinier scale, of course. One of the fibers is then coated with gold and acts as an electrode. When the wires touched each other through the wearer’s body movement, the wires translate the mechanical movement into electricity.

But honestly, how practical is this? The shirt can’t be washed because the major component of the electrified microfiber fabric, zinc oxide actually degrades when it’s wet. Does it mean that the shirt can only be worn a few times? But really, do you want to wear a shirt that generates electricity?

Just charge your phone or MP3 player at home and bring along an extra battery. No hassle.
