Tom Hadfield who one set up Soccer.net in his humble home in Britain and the sold the popular website to U.S Sports network ESPN for $40 million, has now switched from soccer to well, charity.
The devastation caused by malaria that Hadfield saw with his own eyes caused him to realize that there are more to life than putting up soccer scores.
The 25-year old British entrepreneur and student who became an instant multimillionaire at the age of 17 is looking forward to launch a social networking site to fight malaria. He hopes by the power of huge social networking as the like of Facebook could curb the deadly disease that has claimed an estimate of 1 million people every single year.
The fourth-year political student at Harvard University came up with this idea of launching www.MalariaEngage.org from his recent trip to Zambia, which opened his eyes to the disease widely spread and almost uncontrollable in the country.
He met researchers who are working on Malaria treatment while travelling to Tanzania, realizing that their efforts were limited by the amount of resources they have.
With Hadfield’s initiation, they kick off this project in the hope that the power of social networking and people power will build a movement that eradicates malaria.
