Google announced yesterday to donate 1 percent of the company’s annual profit to do-gooder organizations. Google will be donating $25 million to curb global problems like global warming, new diseases that might affect the world and also reaching out to the world’s poorest countries.

Google reported having a market value of $192 billion.

The generous donation from Google include $5 million to Innovative Support to Emergencies, Diseases and Disasters, InSTEDD, which is working on improving early detection of global health threats. It is also donating $2 million to Pratham,

an protagonism group that assesses India’s education quality.

TechnoServe too will be receiving $4.7 million to support entrepreneurs and create job for the people in Ghana and Tanzania. At the same time, Google is also giving Clark University $600,000 for a project that the university is working on to predict major droughts and floods in Africa and Amazon basin in South America so that the people can take precaution and do early preparation for the disaster.

Google also take interest in protecting the world’s climate with their early involvement with eSolar ($10 million), a company using solar energy to create heat to replace fossil fuels at power plants, and RechargeIT, an effort started by the company to develop plug-in hybrid cars.

Larry Brilliant, executive director of Google.org said protecting against climate change is the company’s priority. Way to go, Google!
